Loving nature. Loving neighbors.

Sozo Valley Farm will be a place to connect with creation - to learn how to be a productive part of an ecosystem. As we draw closer to the good world that God created, we will draw closer to Him, and to our neighbors. The best thing about natural systems is that humans didn't make them. So learning from nature will bring us into a new paradigm.

We will nurture a space that cultivates creativity, love, justice, unity, healing, and growth for all.

The farm will value these things in how it functions:

  • Regenerative - As much as possible, practices will be in line with organic and regenerative principles. We are leading the farm towards permaculture and sustainability. This means a long-term, ecological view. We are stewarding an ecosystem, which means using our God-given faculties and responsibilities to heal and manage the land and its gifts. Caring for the land cares for our neighbors.

  • Accessibility - We will make the farm accessible to people with disabilities, as much is possible. An accessible space is weloming to all, and values the image of God in each person, and makes a place for them. We will acknowledge the limits of our human bodies, and find tools and systems that ease the load.

  • Community - Our farm will build and support community. Hospitality will be tangible and guests/volunteers will be welcome. We will love our neighbors well through respect, help, communication, and wise stewardship of our land. We will provide educational and social opportunities.

  • Generosity - We will seek to be generous with our knowledge, our abundance, our time. We will engender gratitude in ourselves and those who visit. We will be a blessing to the nations in our words, actions, work, recreation.

  • Gratitude - Accept all gifts with thanks. Express gratitude regularly. Acknowledge gift givers, and the Giver of all good gifts. Accepting what we cannot change. Live in what is, and be grateful for it. Being constantly grateful for all we have is a perspective of abundance, which leads to generosity.

  • Reciprocity - The land gives you life, so give back to it. Return favors. Acknowledge and encourage helpers. Be quick to help, quick to listen. And as Jesus instructs, give more. Be an overflowing stream of life.

  • Creativity - Our farm will provide ample opportunity for artistic creativity, ingenuity, problem solving, design, construction, crafts. An expression of the life-giving force we have as stewards and co-creators. Art will beautify the mundane.

What else?

The farm will host various classes, workshops, and events. We'll have trails for hiking. Trees, berries, and native plants will be woven throughout the farm. Maybe one day we'll be able to share what we've learned, and help start small farms in urban areas. Maybe our passion for accessibility will lead to new tools and farm structures. For now, we want to start well and let our roots go deep.
